“地方与全球视野下的中国饮食与文化”学术研讨会·会议通知

【会议主旨】
中国幅员辽阔,地广人稠,人文地理、生态环境、民族文化复杂多元,地方饮食亦各具特色,而人口的聚居与迁徙,则影响到各地饮食文化的交流、融合与传播。更重要的是,中国民众往往将饮食与宗教信仰、历史记忆、身体体验、文化生活、族群认同、社会地位、健康与疾病等议题联接起来,因此,饮食与文化,也成为透视中国社会的极佳棱镜。
为了深入研究中国饮食文化本土发展与全球传播,中山大学社会学与人类学学院计划召开“地方与全球视野下的中国饮食与文化”学术研讨会,探讨中华民族多元一体格局下的饮食与文化,并结合族群、宗教、地域、生态、资源、消费观念、食品安全等议题,从历史演变、全球政治经济影响、非物质文化遗产、跨文化传播等多方面理解人类学的饮食文化研究。

Conference Announcement
International Conference on “Chinese Food and Culture in Local and Global Perspectives”
Organized by the Department of Anthropology, Sun Yat-sen Univesity
Date: October 28-29, 2016
Conference theme: China is a big country with diverse populations living in diverse ecologies, and local food and foodways show diverse characteristics and rich culinary heritage. Migration brings diverse Chinese culinary traditions throughout the country and worldwide, and inter-cultural interaction further enriches these traditions. Food and culture are closely associated with religious beliefs and rituals, historical memory and nostalgia, ethnic and cultural identities, social status, health and illness, etc. Thus we can study culture and social change in China as well as those of the Chinese overseas through the lens of food and culture. This conference will study China and the Chinese overseas through the lens of food and culture.
Interested scholars and researchers are welcome to submit paper title and abstract on but not limited to the following themes:
Chinese food and foodways in historical perspectives
Globalization, development, and spread of Chinese food and foodways
The continuity and transformation of Chinese food and foodways
Ecology, ethnicity and food culture
Food and foodways of minorities in China
Ethnicity, tourism and food culture
Vegetarianism, health and Chinese food and foodways
Market, food safety and management
China, borderland, and food
Chinese overseas and Chinese food heritage
Comparative study in food culture: Chinese and non-Chinese
Conference language: Chinese (Putonghua) and English

31 August 2016: Deadline for submitting paper title and abstract
15 September: Final date for sending acceptance letters (earlier notification for those who submit abstract earlier)

30 October 2016: Study tour of Shunde (an important culinary center in Guangdong)
31 October 2016: Departure.

Participation:
Scholars and researchers who are interested to present papers at the conference please submit by email attachment paper title, an abstract of not more than 200 words and personal information (full name, academic or professional title, full address of affiliation and email address) before 31 August, 2016.
The conference organizer will provide campus accommodation (check in 27 October, 2016; check out 31 October 2016) and conference meals. Participants are expected to pay their own transport cost.
